Of course we all know what has happened in Haiti over the past couple of weeks and I'm sure we can all agree that it is unfortunate for all the natural reasons that you could call it unfortunate, from the poverty to political chaos, but what makes the story even sadder is when you take into account Haiti's past as a country whose slave population revolted and defeated their slave masters.
It was a great victory Toussaint L'Ouverture, who lead the revolt, and it must have really scared the rest of the slave owners in the world.
I would also say it generated some serious hate for Haiti because the country has suffered countless efforts by colonial powers to ruin it since then.
In any case my sympathies (for what ever they're worth) goes out to the victims in Haiti and I would encourage people to support any legitimate efforts to send aid to the battered people of Haiti and I hope the problem does not endure.
"Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regard to matters requiring thought: the less people know and understand about them, the more positively they attempt to argue concerning them, while on the other hand to know and understand a multitude of things renders men cautious in passing judgment upon anything new."
— Galileo Galilei
I heard this quote while I was having breakfast and I thought it said a lot about the way people think, at least some of them.
So i decided to share it with yall just as something to think about.
So I very much enjoyed watching this film. i mean of course it is a visual masterpiece. Landscapes, characters, animal life, make the film hard to turn away from.
I enjoyed the build up, the fact that the hero was in a wheelchair, which added something to the characters experience.
I really liked all the performances. They were worth watching and i wasn't bored at any time.
That being said, i thought some of the references were pushy, like the shock and awe line and little hints about Iraq that didn't feel natural, or maybe I'm just reading too much into, lol. . I'm also not sure how I feel about a movie with a 300 million dollar price tag, but it didn't keep me from liking the film. I think it borrowed from many places, but did it in such a a way as to make them its own. This review is a first impression and I'm sure I will watch the film again, but for now I have to say 8 out of 10 for me.
Yes, it has to be said. I love this show, and i'm a pretty picky guy when it comes to TV. The early part of the first season was a little cheesy because they had to explain everything, but they have adapted well. Tim Roth is great as this Cal, if for no other reason then his quirky performances. I always enjoy watching things with him in it. The supporting cast is great too. Torrez is sexy as hell, and they also added my man Mekhi Phifer to the mix. The show works on so many levels,
and the guy whom the techniques are based on writes a blog breaking down the science of the show, so you can understand what is real and what is entertainment. Worth watching.
The movie is fast paced and pretty to look at, but dumb as a post. There are too many
things to make fun of, but if you want to shake your head a lot, this is the movie to see.
I love to watch Scifi and disaster movies, so i had to go see this. I didn't have high expectations for anything but the special FX,
and the movie turned out to be pretty much what i thought it
would be, although a lot worse in some aspects.
The story was written by what appears to be a Borg who assimilated
a lot from others movies in terms of the characters and the sub plot,
as well as cliches galore and a little melodrama here and there.
Special attention should be paid to the awful science which made it
possible for woody Harrelson to withstand the blast of a mega volcano (atomic level),
while standing at the rim of it, but only long enough to be crushed be oncoming
terrain. Bad science also made it possible for John Cusack to outrun a pyroclastic flow
in a beat up RV. Lot's more examples, but that should give you an idea.
