Of course we all know what has happened in Haiti over the past couple of weeks and I'm sure we can all agree that it is unfortunate for all the natural reasons that you could call it unfortunate, from the poverty to political chaos, but what makes the story even sadder is when you take into account Haiti's past as a country whose slave population revolted and defeated their slave masters.
It was a great victory Toussaint L'Ouverture, who lead the revolt, and it must have really scared the rest of the slave owners in the world.
I would also say it generated some serious hate for Haiti because the country has suffered countless efforts by colonial powers to ruin it since then.
When I heard the moronic words of Pat Roberts and of Rush Limbaugh, I could not help but be disgusted.
In any case my sympathies (for what ever they're worth) goes out to the victims in Haiti and I would encourage people to support any legitimate efforts to send aid to the battered people of Haiti and I hope the problem does not endure.
Please visit this site for a list of reputable charities supporting Haiti. Thank you. |
