It is difficult not to be confused by the political process in this country, let alone the perception of our leaders' intentions and behavior , particularly as you see it narrated by major media outlets in the most sensational way.
I have been confused, not so much because of being naive about how things work, but that I was starting to lose translation of the everyday beefs that took place throughout 2009, particularly those that pointed all fingers at Obama as though he was in this by himself.
In 2008 I went out and voted for the first time in my life. I voted for Obama, who I thought was hugely capable of bringing some much needed intellectualism to the office. Some much needed stability to balance out 8 years of runaway politics.
Through much of the year I found myself confused and sometimes disappointed by Obama's performance, and felt myself slipping back into not caring about politics anymore and just giving up.
Now I can't say I've been convinced to return to the same level of hope that I had before, but after watching the Q&A with the republicans yesterday, I have to say I am on the road to recovery. I just hope that Obama sticks to this level of addressing the concerns and misconceptions of the public in going forward and that the words spoken there today, will have a positive and lasting effect on our leaders. |
